Tata Steel Conferred First Prize for “Longest Accident Free Period”
~The Awards were given by Directorate of Factories & Boilers ~

The Ferro Alloys Plant (FAP)of Tata Steel at Joda has conferred the first prize in the category of ‘Longest Accident Free Period’ for the year 2007 by the Director of Factories & Boilers, Orissa during the 36th State Safety Awards ceremony organized at Bhubaneswar today. This plant of Tata Steel is one of the oldest Ferro Alloys plan in the State, established in the year 1958. The award was received by Mr B. D. Nanda, Head FAP; Joda received the award on behalf of Tata Ferro Alloys Plant, Joda from the Hon’ble Minister of State (Ind.), Labour & Employment, Orissa, Shri Puspendra Singhdeo.

Tata Steel believes that safety and occupational health responsibilities are driven by its desires to ensure zero harm to people who work with and society at large and are integral to the way it does the business. Its fundamental belief is that all injuries can be prevented and the responsibility starts with each one of us.

To further ensure that the safety standards are maintained as well as bring in improvements in Safety & Occupational Health, Tata Steel has appointed Du Pont Safety Resources of USA, the pioneer in Safety & Occupational Health. Du Pont conducts “Third Party Safety Audit” every year in order to assess the status of Safety, Health and Environment of the various plant of Tata Steel.

Along with Tata Steel, Tata Sponge Iron Ltd has also honored the first prize in the category of “Lowest weighted frequency rate of accident”.

Shri Bijay Kumar Das, Senior Technician of Tata Refractories Ltd has been honored in “Shrama Award for Best Performance in Safety for Regular Worker” category.

With the massive industrialization taking place all over the world, safety and health of industrial workers is becoming an increasingly important issue for both the management of factories and the society at large. In order to give public recognition for good performance in the factories and to stimulate and maintain the interest of both management as well as workers in accident prevention and safety promotional programmes, the State Government have introduced the State Safety Award to outstanding performers in the field of safety and health of industrial workers.
