The Tata Relief Committee has been active in Odisha since 1961 and its relief programmes have been spread over more than 15 districts. Odisha has witnessed several natural calamities and disasters that have conspired to stall progress in the state. Tata Relief Committee has extended support through the years to minimise the impact of these setbacks and resume the journey of advancement.
More than 100,000 families affected by the super-cyclone of 1999 were provided relief aid and necessary support.
The Committee dedicated 435 houses and 24 schools cum cyclone shelters to super cyclone affected families.
Relief distributed amongst 3-lakh cyclone-affected families in the state since 1999.
The Company provided relief distribution to more than 100,000 people when severe floods affected the state in 2001, 2003, and 2005. Relief was brought to more than 35,000 flood affected families in Balasore and Jajpur in 2006 and 2007.
The Company constructed more than 500 houses for flood-affected families of Ganjam district in 1981 and 1991.
The Company also constructed 135 houses for the Tornado affected families in Keonjhar district in 1978 and 1981.
There was large-scale provision of tube wells in Jajpur, Ganjam, Bolangir and other places during the drought situations in these regions.
